Thomas Tuchel Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel shared his disappointment that the England team did not get stronger backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad showcase their strong performance, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the match. However, he was not content with the energy at the national stadium.
“With limited sessions to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach stated. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. It was quiet. There was no any energy from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad earned greater backing today.”
“I stand by my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I hoped for a bit more support in moments where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also caused a stir by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Foden from his team selection. However the decision was justified by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” the head coach said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his position.”
Bellamy Seeks Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who host Belgium in a crucial qualifying match on Monday, improve after their poor performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” the manager commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after clattering into a post and will be a doubt when the national team play Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
