American legislators from each political sides are accusing one another as many of employees face furlough and the closure continues with no conclusion in view.

Democrats have declined to endorse the Republican budget proposal unless expiring healthcare subsidies which they say many laboring parents rely on are continued.

Republicans expect the opposition to pass a short-term measure beforehand and then they can negotiate the support payments.

This Golden State citizen is anxious about the broad impact of the shutdown on regular people.

The GOP have 53 votes, they need 60 to approve the bill. Is it that hard to find common ground over a handful of yeas so that the public aren't being hurt?

If this persists for another week or two, the reality is Americans are being hurt, US residents are being touched by this and a leader must do something to be the grown-up in the negotiations.

I think sometimes legislators are so removed from the people, the common folk managing daily affairs, so they don't remember what the hardship is like and I feel they must factor that in, particularly if it's 750,000 US citizens that are without income.

That's a large group of Americans without pay, that's a lot of people unable to inject their earnings back into the economy. Americans are just being negatively impacted.

This Old Line State citizen acknowledges this funding lapse will cause pain to many people, but she believes it is a important political fight.

I'm nervous because there is no positive result with the federal government being closed.

I'm highly nervous about what's going to occur to economically disadvantaged groups, learners who need federal scholarships and government workers.

But this is a important struggle for the Democratic Party to fight. Naturally positions are going to be lost, services are going to go without funding, which is so disappointing but I do not believe that is responsibility that the Democrats would have on their conscience.

I believe it's valuable to hold out, this is sending a powerful message to their constituents.

I question if the Democratic leadership has a roadmap for an exit strategy to talks or how to get the faction away from this.

I am uncertain if the Democrats have a effective narrative to the citizens on what they're attempting.

In terms of social media messaging, the GOP certainly have the edge. The narrative is not effective on what the left are attempting.

I'm already at a stage where I'm fairly anxious because government shutdowns hurt the public.

I'm going to be unaffected, but for others who depends on the government, who wants to tour a National Park or institution, they're going to be inconvenienced, if not now, then in the near future.

And that is intolerable.

This is usual partisan behavior. It is a continuing resolution they are seeking to enact, that the opposition oppose.

People are referring to it as a leadership-induced halt, it's not due to the GOP, it's because of the Democratic leader, he's acting to remain relevant within his political faction - in the meanwhile, all are in the difficult position.

I don't see that this is going to end.

The ordinary citizens are trapped between sides, and the left are prepared to harm those people. They're hurting their cause any favours when they truly hold up issues like this.

This Florida citizen claims Democrats' approach is a tough but necessary one and one that touches his family member, who has been placed on leave because of the funding gap.

Democrats' approach is a challenging one, but regrettably it is a required one.

They have been unable to do very much to halt or prevent the current administration's policies.

I agree with their strategy, I agree with their justification for proceeding.

The administration leader is a bully and if you yield to a bully he's going to expect further compromises, that's how such individuals work. So you have to stand up to a bully to make him realise you're not going to concede for nothing.

The juncture when it becomes too much is when the Democrats start failing in the PR battle, if the perception changes to criticizing the left then it might be appropriate to end the standoff.

This Grand Canyon State voter is unaffected by the shutdown so he is supportive of the shutdown lasting a while, if that is what it is needed for the GOP to win.

I would think after the period that the Democrats have had, I would have thought that they would have supported the temporary funding, at least temporarily.

I am in favor of what the Republicans are attempting, I'm fully supportive of lowering government spending.

The left have turned so hateful of the current president, whatever he offers I feel they would look for excuses to oppose him.

I personally am unaffected by the urgency that many citizens are, this doesn't directly impact.

The limited we rely on the federal system - what it does provide for us - the shutdown is not going to impact us {whatsoever|at all|in any
