Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

After a drab midweek display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on goal, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defence, combining well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored only a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
