Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Dies
A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck during a random assault near a bus shelter in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.
Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court Monday morning, facing charges for the attack.
He was previously accused of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Police Response
Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.
Investigators are requesting for witnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, trainers and rucksack.
Incident Location
The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.
Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as a random violent act with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.
Eyewitness Reports
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her work period around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00.
"Many co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, here in the city centre."
Another individual, 25, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.
"She doesn't drive employed at major concert locations... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
