Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found plenty of entertaining indie games. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a character that is literally a dung attempting to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to purchase skins for your fecal avatar.

Time your movements precisely, since one error means restarting the level. Bounce using bubbles to propel the poop upward, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal new areas. Earn UN-KOINS for buying more difficult game content as the action ramps up.

Visually, the experience boasts eye-catching level designs and a killer soundtrack. The simple graphics featuring morphing abstract forms may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name previous releases where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content appears heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available currently on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on PC on November 19.
