Close to 25,000 Lost Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Powerful Weather Systems
Around 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, bringing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.
Large Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction
Locals observed large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the extensive power failures.
Victorian Storm Challenges
At the same time, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.
Emergency response teams handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

- Hoppers Crossing suburb - various rescue reports
- Wyndham - 179 emergency requests
At one point on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.
Weather Forecast
Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.
Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both states.
Medical Alert
Medical authorities warned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
