Caelan Doris Secures Spot in Ireland Squad While McCarthy Left Out
Returning manager the Ireland coach has selected captain Doris in his Ireland team for the autumn matches, but Joe McCarthy misses out.
Doris, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in the start of May, recently returned to Leinster training, though his fitness is uncertain whether he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.
Second row Joe McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot injury he sustained during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in July.
Ulster player Izuchukwu and southern province wing Nash also miss out because of fitness concerns, while full-back Hugo Keenan had already been ruled out after having hip surgery following the Lions tour.
Dublin province forward Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the only uncapped member in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities says new Munster duo Edwin Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped western province winger Shayne Bolton will travel to the US as "backup".
After facing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their previous encounter, the team host the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world champions South Africa in the Irish capital.
"It's an exciting group to the squad and there's an opportunity for the veteran members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," commented the coach, who returns to national team duties after a break to lead the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a mostly experienced squad, Leinster's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will again vie for the first-choice fly-half position. The fly-half role is remains available, as the two players poised to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming URC game at the Dublin venue.
Ciaran Frawley is the additional number 10 chosen as the coach opting against calling up Leinster's Harry Byrne.
At number 9, the Ireland boss has picked Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who led the national side to the summer international wins over Georgia and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a return for Connacht's Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey represent an veteran cohort of midfield choices. Jamie Osborne is a further choice in the centres, though the 23-year-old is additionally a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at full-back.
Outside backs Lowe, Hansen, O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are included. O'Brien impressed on his first Ireland outings during the summer with two tries apiece in the wins over Georgia and Portugal.

Munster lock Ahern, who received his first two caps in those Tests, is kept in the squad, while experienced Northern province second row Henderson returns after sitting out the summer matches.
Jack Conan, who played in each of the Lions matches over the summer, is poised to deputise for Doris if the skipper fails to recover full fitness in time to play the All Blacks.
The Ireland squad will assemble in the capital on Monday before traveling to the US on Tuesday.
