In a bizarre crossover event that challenges traditional expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Adventure Disclosed

According to the formal announcement, "A strange meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where hints of forbidden rituals and terrifying metamorphoses reverberate through the darkness." The narrative introduces a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a clandestine sect.

The mission focuses on "strange trials and a monstrous adversary" and is accessible to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Settings and Transformations

The teaser features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview concludes with a powerful sequence showing a character, probably the captive, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Extra Content

Players who accomplish the adventure will obtain an exclusive katana alongside several items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Latest Free Story Content

This update also introduces the game's latest free story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive techniques: Naoe introduces a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime franchises. The series earlier showcased a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
